Whether you're coming in after a few years away or switching from a practice where you never quite felt informed, a cleaning and exam at Vulcan City Dental starts in a different place than most.
Every new patient receives a CBCT scan and digital intraoral scan as part of their first visit — not as an add-on, and not something we'll ask you to approve on a separate line item. It's simply how we practice. Those images go up on a large screen in the operatory so that you see exactly what Dr. Grimes or Dr. MacWilliam sees, in real time, before any recommendations are made. If there's something worth noting, we'll show it to you and explain what it means. If there isn't, we'll tell you that too.
The clinical exam itself covers your teeth, gums, bite, and oral tissues thoroughly. Your hygiene appointment addresses buildup and calculus that brushing and flossing can't fully reach — not because you're doing anything wrong, but because that's how teeth work over time. We'll talk through what we find, what your options are if anything needs attention, and what a realistic maintenance plan looks like going forward. Nothing gets recommended without an explanation, and nothing moves forward without your decision.
If it's been a while, we're not going to make it awkward. We're going to give you a clear picture of where things stand and work with you on a path forward — at your pace, on your terms. That's what a first appointment here looks like, and it's what every recall visit builds on.
